One has to crawl first to walk. As anyone who knows anything about fitness and exercise knows that you have to start somewhere and move slowly, and the same principle applies to Yoga.
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit language and means "to integrate". The practice of Yoga ensures a good flow of blood to the tissues of our body. Since different yoga schools often have a slightly different focus, flexibility is allowed, with several hours given to a more intense study of the school's specialty.
By having a greater sense of balance, you are able to move more easily and safely. And there are all sorts of other physical conditions which can be improved with improved blood circulation which results from the practice of Yoga. Flexibility will help you avoid injury during any athletic endeavors.
Often when students try a new pose, they tend to hold their breath, so remind students often to breathe. Most yoga practices include some time for meditation.
